ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the role of nurses in the reduction of patient's infections in emergency departments (EDs). It mentions the decision of a trauma surgeon to cease an operation at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina due to catheter contamination to avoid the risk of urinary tract infection. Clinical educator Amy Mundisev adds that posting catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) cases in hospitals motivates ED nurses to be individually accountable.
