ABSTRACT
The article reports on a study evaluating whether the use of rosiglitazone increases risk for serious cardiovascular (CV) events or mortality more than pioglitazone in older patients. The study found that the use of rosiglitazone was associated with increased risk for stroke, heart failure, and mortality in older patients, but not acute myocardial infarction, compared with pioglitazone. As reported, proposed stipulations in the U.S. have rendered rosiglitazone obsolete in the market.
