The article discusses extensional or elongational viscosity and its measurement in coatings industry. It mentions that extensional is another type of viscosity wherein the extensional flow exists when fluid deformation is the result of stretching motion. It states that extensional viscosity is related to the required stretching stress. It says that measurement difficulties of extensional viscosity should be considered for it can result to roll coat ribbing and poor spray atomization.
