ABSTRACT
The article discusses research done by the Smurfit School of Business in University College Dublin and Queen's University Management School in Belfast about the economic crisis in Ireland. The research also focused on the role played by the human resources (HR) profession in helping companies survive the crisis. It was found that the influence of HR has emerged because companies have often become reliant on HR knowledge and expertise for survival. The study was financed by the Irish Labour Relations Commission.
