The article examines the longbow, the weapon used by English archers during battles of the Middle Ages. The origin of the weapon in Wales in the 11th century A.D. is discussed. The construction of the longbow and the various woods used in its production including elm, ash and yew are considered. The dimensions of the longbow and its effective range as a weapon are discussed.
