ABSTRACT
Seasonal deciduous forests (SDF) constitute an ecosystem whose ecological processes in the interaction vegetation/ biodiversity have been little studied, especially so as regard situations of alteration and/or fragmentation. Taking as indicators richness and abundance of nocturnal Macrolepidoptera species, the present analysis researches the role of certain frequently used criteria which characterize SDF fragments, for example area, shape and closest neighbour. On the other hand, the contribution of habitat proportion at different spatial scales was also studied. Our results indicate a greater influence of the proportion of available habitat factor and a lesser role of the geometrical attributes of fragments. In this way a model is proposed and discussed that explains the influence of landscape over both biodiversity attributes, which includes habitat proportion and geometric characters, resulting in a conservation criterion for this faunistics group.
