ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the concern of the insurance industry on the planned merger of the U.S.-based Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the London-based International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). It states that the goal to have a unified standard in the evaluation of insurance contracts would affect the insurance industry. However, Steven M. Chirico of A.M. Best predicted that users should be happier with a single accounting standard.
