The author comments on the benefits of reaching new customers directly on their cell phones. Several industry research suggest that a text message to the cell phone has nearly a 98% read rate. Short-code messaging offers a value-added service because it is an instant mode of communication. It is also beneficial as the cell phone number can be stored for future database marketing efforts.
