ABSTRACT
The article focuses on scholarly communications seen to be similar in pattern to the way authors communicate during the seventeenth century when there were few gatekeepers and more self-publications. It offers a history of the way Rene Descartes and Gottfried Leibniz connect with other thinkers in the seventeenth century and how Henry Oldenburg became the linker and connector among researchers. It notes the difference and similarity between the seventeenth century community and the current online community with many self-published materials.
