ABSTRACT
The article offers a discussion on the pros and cons of diagnosing diabetes with A1C. Traditionally, the tools used for diagnosing diabetes include fasting plasma glucose (FPG) assessment and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). An advantage of using A1C tool is that it assesses hundreds or virtually thousands of fasting glucose levels and captures post-prandial glucose peaks. A disadvantage of using A1C for diabetes diagnosis is the poor standardization of the assay.
