ABSTRACT
The article discusses the Copyright Act, which allows a plaintiff to seek statutory damages in lieu of its actual damages or the profits of the infringer. It notes that the interaction of sections 504 and 412, 17 U.S.C. of the Copyright Act relating to award of statutory damages should be understood by the owners of copyrighted works and intellectual property practitioners. It states that Sectionn 504 of the Copyright Act allows a copyright owner to opt for statutory damages at any time before final judgment.
