ABSTRACT
The article presents a response to criticisms of the author's article entitled "An Honest Appraisal of Honesty in Communication," which appeared in the October 1964 issue. The author argues that truth in communication is not always beneficial to cooperation. The proposition that truth always has constructive effects and that distorted information has destructive effects on personality and interpersonal relationships ignores the question of the extent to which the message communicator must assume responsibility for the welfare of the message recipients.
