Unsafe Abortion: The Missing Link in Global Efforts to Improve Maternal Health

The article discusses the threat to the health of women posed by unsafe abortion which has increased from 19.7 million in 2003 to 21.6 million in 2008. It notes that the World Health Organization (WHO) has considered unsafe abortion, hemorrhage, and septicemia from childbirth as the three leading causes of maternal mortality. It mentions that the stagnant proportion of women dying from unsafe abortion has continued.
