The article discusses odonate or species of dragonflies and damselflies that are found in the state of New York. The state is described as having the second highest number of the species in the U.S. The NY Dragonfly and Damselfly Survey (NYDDS) was conducted by the New York Natural Heritage Program (NYNHP) with the state's Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) from 2005 to 2009, which revealed five species that were previously not known to the state. Species seen during the summer include the variable dancer and the ebony jewelwing.
