The article looks at current economic factors and predictions related to inflation in the U.S. The author examines the survey of the Financial Planning Association on how financial planners deal with inflation. Ron Altman, senior portfolio manager at MD Sass, states that the inflation that one wants to hedge against is industrial and agricultural commodities rather than labor inflation. Kent Smetters, Boettner professor at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, states that consumer price index (CPI) has a larger average than commodities return even if they move together. Ed McRedmond, senior vice president of institutional and portfolio strategies at Invesco PowerShares Capital Management, states that commodity prices overreact to small changes in supply and demand.
