ABSTRACT
This article presents the author's experiences of participating in the 89th annual meeting of the American Historical Association. The author opines that as a result of increasing "professionalization" and the expansion of so-called higher education, the average historian is a fellow of no breeding and little breadth of knowledge. The author also states that in the historical profession, specialization is entering its terminal phase as more and more people have more and more to say to fewer and fewer people.
