ABSTRACT
The article discusses a ruling issued by the U.S. Supreme Court regarding prison overcrowding in California. The high court has deemed the California prison system as inadequate in the provision of medical and mental health care services to prisoners. Due to overcrowding and healthcare deficiencies, the prison system is being required by the high court to reduce its inmate population. It is also revealed that one California prisoner dies every eight days due to the lack of sufficient medical care.
