ABSTRACT
Objective: to determine the social representations of the population about the HIV positive pregnant women for HIV. Method: this is an exploratory and descriptive study from qualitative approach, performed in different parts of the Goiânia metropolitan region, Goiás-GO, Brazil after approval by the Ethics in Research of the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás under protocol n. 0152/10-05. The subjects were members of the general population, observing unique criteria as age over 18 years and willingness. Used as a tool for data collection a questionnaire recall with inducing expression related to pregnancy in women seropositive for HIV. Data analysis performed by EVOC software, version 2003, after preparing the database. Results: 235 questionnaires were applied. As to the expression "HIV positive woman's pregnancy", the most frequent evocations of the population were <> (110) and <> (70). Regarding the right of HIV-positive women to get pregnant, 48.93% of the population showed a negative response. We have noted prejudice, suffering and death overlapping the right to life, health and reproduction. Conclusion: we have awakened the need for studies and actions to complement the knowledge of the population about the HIV positive pregnant women for HIV.
