The article presents the author's insights regarding a conference on Richard Wagner held at the Columbia University in New York in 1995, wherein one of its participants ask why should people listen to Wagner's music. The author says that Wagner's music concerns in the German ideological identity. He mentions the opera titled the "Ring," by Ruth Berghaus and the film "Parsifal," by Hans-Juergen Syberberg which both represents Wagner's work. He states that the Berghaus practiced deconstructive reading and undermining the aesthetic unity of the "Ring" with ideological motifs such as doll characters, while the film "Parsifal" is filled with inconsistent symbols which lack interpretative grid.
