ABSTRACT
The article reports on the investigation by the National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) on the practices of lenders in preserving foreclosed homes in the U.S. The investigation revealed that banks are not keeping real estate owned (REO) similarly in African-American and Latino communities in the country. Shanna Smith, NFHA's president, also comments that lenders and asset managers are violating the Fair Housing Act because of discriminating maintenance issues for certain market based on race.
