ABSTRACT
The article reflects on the plan of U.S. President Ronald Reagan to abolish the Volunteers in Service to America in 1981. It explains the purpose of the federal initiative. It clarifies the role of the program in organizing school desegregation and welfare rights of senior citizens. It applauds the commitment of Senator Robert Stafford of Vermont to the approach of Reagan to the program. It criticizes the use of the program in advancing activities that can be considered as partisan which favor leftist initiatives.
