Reed, Richard T.
September 1981
National Review;9/4/1981, Vol. 33 Issue 17, p1017
The article focuses on the reason behind the disappearance of priest Roy Bourgeois in El Salvador. The disappearance of Bourgeois on April 26, 1981 caused widespread fears and stirred controversies. There were speculations that he has been kidnapped or killed by the security forces of the Salvadoran government. Prayers were offered and letters were issued, asking for the safe release of the priest. On May 6, Bourgeois appeared in front of the U.S. Embassy in San Salvador. He said that he had joined the local rebels in their armed struggle for justice and peace. However, he concurred that he will not take up arms but will only support the group.
