This article focuses on the depiction of political martyrs in U.S. television broadcasting. There is nothing new about this role because martyrs are traditionally produced and exploited by losers to symbolize their resentment against those people on the top positions. Classic martyrs include Alger Hiss, Patrice Lumumba and Che Guevara. The television culture has added a new perspective to the familiar martyr role. In this article, the phenomenon of the outlaw martyr is given emphasis, as well as the media industry that commercializes it.
