ABSTRACT
The article compares soak-in and sand mar defects in coatings. It details that soak-in is a defect in which the paint sinks down into the substrate or undercoat resulting to a less glossy or rough appearance and often irregular pattern. It describes that sand mar is a defect which involves sanding of a primer or midcoat and often results to roughness or irregular waviness of the resultant coating due to aluminum flake coatings.
