ABSTRACT
The article discusses challenges to the global eradication of malaria. Statistics on malaria cases and deaths are provided. Recommended interventions to control malaria in sub-Saharan Africa include long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets (ITNs), indoor residual spraying, diagnosis and treatment of infected persons with artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT), and protection of women with intermittent preventive treatment during pregnancy. Research into new medications, insecticides, and vaccines is proposed.
