The article reports that Ascension Health will enter into a merger deal with Alexian Bros. Health System as it aims to become major player among Catholic hospitals in Chicago, Illinois. Analysts are saying that the consolidation could give Chicago's solo hospitals access to larger systems' resources to improve quality and clinical integration. Mark Frey, vice president at Alexian Bros. said that they entered the deal because they fear that their finances would erode as reimbursement declines and demand for capital investment increases.
