ABSTRACT
The article relates the author's feelings about his ancestral house Piety Hill in Michigan, which was totally destroyed by fire on the night of Ash Wednesday. He remembered thanking and praising God for no human life was lost in the fire. He was very grateful to all his neighbors who came with tender condolences. According to the author, the burning of Piety Hill was a purgatory for him and his family.
