ABSTRACT
S.A. writes: Three years ago I decided to quit teaching to train as a home inspector, paying £6,800 for my course. I was told this would be tax deductible against earnings as essential training, but the Government abolished my new career last year. Can I claim back the costs against earnings in teaching? P.H. replies: I am afraid you will not be able to claim the training cost as a tax deductible expense. It fails the usual tests on two counts.
