ABSTRACT
How will you play 6NT when West leads the jack of diamonds, won with the ace? You have ten tricks on top and need two extra tricks from the heart and club suits. Suppose your first move is to finesse the jack of clubs. If East wins and makes a neutral return such as a diamond, you will have time to test the clubs (hoping for a 3-3 break or the fall of the 10) before relying on a heart finesse. However, a strong defender in the East seat may reduce your options by switching to hearts, whether or not he holds the heart king. You will then have to choose between finessing the jack of hearts or rising with the heart ace, hoping that the club suit will deliver your 12th trick (or there will be a heartclub squeeze).
