ABSTRACT
The article discusses the auction of "Magnificent Books, Manuscripts and Drawings from the Collection of Frederick, 2nd Lord Hesketh" at Sotheby's of New Bond Street, London, England on December 7, 2010. It included 52 watercolour drawings of roses by Redouté for Pierre-Joseph's "Les Roses," which were sold for 2.7 million pounds. The article also discusses the paintings of roses in the Chinese Imperial gardens by Italian Jesuit monk Giuseppe Castiglione.
