This article presents information on various developments and events related to the Financial Planning Association (FPA). Cultural anthropologist Dr. Jennifer James will speak at FPA Retreat 2002's opening general session on Thursday, April 25. FPA Regional Conference for chapter leaders will be held in Hartford, Connecticut on March 22-23, 2002. FPA plans to send letters to the U.S. Congress to take action on technical corrections to the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001. An FPA representative testified in support of broad suitability requirements in connection with the sale of life insurance products on December 10, 2001. FPA will continue to stress the elimination of most exceptions to the original suitability standards for all insurance products sold to individuals and businesses. On December 7, 2001 FPA reiterated its opposition to a proposed exemption from investment adviser registration for broker/dealers offering fee-based advisory programs. FPA will also provide comments to CFP Board on rule disclosure changes.
