ABSTRACT
The article discusses the declining profitability of steel service centers in the U.S. Steel Service Center Institute (SSCI) president Andrew G. Sharkey cites five reasons of the malaise in steel distribution including the shrinking steel consumption, oversaturation and downward trend of steel prices. He said that in order to fight the said conditions, service centers must exercise greater ingenuity in formulating and marketing cost-reduction opportunities to their accounts.
