ABSTRACT
The controversy whether K[sup π]=4[sup +] bands in heavy deformed nuclei are best described as double-γ-phonons or hexadecapole phonons can be resolved by considering all available data, and noting that the main argument used for double-γ-phonon assignments is based on faulty logic. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

The fission barriers of two odd-neutron heavy odd nuclei, namely the 235U and 239Pu isotopes have been calculated within a self-consistent Hartree- Fock-plus-BCS approach with blocking. A Skyrme nucleon-nucleon effective interaction has been used together with a seniority force to describe...

Low-energy neutron capture cross sections of [sup 16]O are obtained from the direct-capture model, using the folded potential calculated with the nuclear density distribution and the effective nucleon-nucleon interaction DDM3Y.
