ABSTRACT
Using the reaction of the slow-neutron capture in [sup 149]Sm and [sup 155,157,158]Gd, the M1 photon strength functions are studied from the point of view of a possible role of scissors resonances built on excited states. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Currently, neutron capture therapy is a promising cancer treatment. This method is based on the reaction of thermal neutron capture by some nonradioactive elements (e.g., Gd), which results in the sub-sequent emission of electrons and gamma rays.
