Identification of mixed-symmetry one- and two-phonon states in [sup 94]Mo

γ-spectroscopy of low-lying low-spin states of the near-spherical nucleus [sup 94]Mo is reported. Photon scattering experiments and γγ-coincidence measurements of γ-radiation following the β-decay of [sup 94]Tc nuclei produced in the [sup 94]Mo(p,n) reaction and following the [sup 91]Zr(α,n)[sup 94]Mo reaction were performed. We measured level energies, spin and parity quantum numbers, branching ratios, multipole mixing ratios, and lifetimes for low-spin states, which are high above yrast. The mixed-symmetry (MS)2[sup +] one-quadrupole phonon excitation and the (MS)1[sup +] and 3[sup +] two-phonon states are identified from measured M1 and E2 transition strengths. We observed γ-transitions between MS states and the E2/M1 multipole mixing ratios of the F-vector 1[sup +]→2[sub 1][sup +],2[sub 2][sup +] transitions were measured. The data support the two-phonon character of the 1[sup +]MS state. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
