It has been observed experimentally that the IR for [sup 137]Ba and [sup 139]Ce equals to about 0.13 while in two heavier isotones [sup 141]Nd and [sup 143]Sm it is more than twice smaller. To explain this effect the structure of the excited states in the energy domain up to 6.5 MeV has been calculated within Quasiparticle Phonon Model. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

H-DNA, thought to play a regulatory role in transcription, exists in two isomeric forms, H-y3 and H-y5. We present the first solution structure of a DNA fragment representing the H-y5 fold. The structure shows the H-y5 triple helix, and for the first time how in an H-DNA isomer the purine strand...

The surprising relative stability of PNO compared to NPO cannot be explained by a single configuration molecular orbital (MO) model. However the MO model can be used to understand the pattern of stability among the protonated isomers HPNO+, PNOH+, HNPO+, and NPOH+, and perhaps to explain...

ESR spectra of 29Si2, 29SiH3, and H29SiO molecules in argon and/or neon matrices at 4 K have yielded the following new data: Si2 has a zero-field splitting in its ground3Σ-g state of |D|=2.53(1) cm-1 in an argon matrix, which extrapolates to a gas-phase parameter of |λ|=1.35(5) cm-1. The...
