Electron scattering from laser excited atoms

This paper reviews advances in the area of electron scattering from laser excited atoms since the XX International Conference on the Physics of Electronic and Atomic Collisions (ICPEAC) in Vienna. It discusses superelastic scattering of electrons from potassium and from rubidium. The excitation of higher lying states from excited P states in both sodium and barium is discussed. Elastic scattering from the (...6s 6p)[sup 1]P state and (...6s 5d)[sup 1,3]D states of barium is discussed as are experiments that observe elastic scattering from the 3[sup 2]P state in sodium. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
