ABSTRACT
Experiment and theory both reveal the existence of resonances in the attachment cross section of electrons on metallic clusters, the example we give being that of the alkali cluster K[sub 8]. The energies of these resonances correspond to the excitation energies of the giant resonances, due to the collective motion of all the delocalized electrons. We describe work done on this problem so far, and point towards future directions. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
