In Her X-1 the history of the 35 day turn-ons is strongly correlated with the histories of the 1.24 s pulsations and the X-ray flux. We suggest a common origin for these correlated variations, namely a variable mass transfer rate. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

The existence of pulsations in HgMn stars is still being debated. To provide the first unambiguous observational detection of pulsations in this class of chemically peculiar objects, the bright star HD 45975 was monitored for nearly two months by the CoRoT satellite. Aims. To date, WASP-33 is the only d Scuti star known to be orbited by a hot Jupiter. The pronounced stellar pulsations, showing periods comparable to the primary transit duration, interfere with the transit modeling. Therefore our main goal is to study the pulsation spectrum of the host star to...

Quasi-periodic pulsations with periods mostly around 13 s in the frequency range of 54–78 MHz have been observed following the first X2 flare occurring on 24 November 2000. Assuming an impulsively generated propagating MHD wave in a coronal loop for the pulsations, the coronal magnetic...

We present the photometric observations of the old nova V603 Aql with the RTT 150 Russian-Turkish telescope during eleven nights of 2001–2002. We show that the star at this time was in a state with positive superhumps and its photometric period of 0d.144–0d.145 was longer than the...

This paper examines the observational evidence for the detection of gravity modes in δ Scuti stars, which are p-mode pulsators. Low-order gravity modes have also been found in at least one star (FG Vir). Some reports of gravity modes may be due to systematic errors in the absolute magnitude...

Context. Pulsations in pre-main sequence stars have been discovered several times within the last years. But nearly all of these pulsators are of δ Scuti-type. γ Doradus-type pulsation in young stars has been predicted by theory, but lack observational evidence. Aims. We present the...
