A status report on the revitalization of the NSLS VUV ring will be presented, concentrating on three areas: 1) the four infrared ports (U2A/B, U4IR, U10A/B, and U12IR), 2) conversion of out-of-date toroidal grating monochromators to spherical grating type (U4A, U7A, and U12A), and 3) new insertion device beamlines (U5UA and U13UB). All of these beamlines were designed (new ones) or upgraded (old ones) to serve a specific scientific need represented by the PRTs (both NSLS and non-NSLS based) involved. Therefore, an overview of the scientific programs served by these new beamlines will be given, as well as a summary of the beamline optical designs and operating performance. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

To achieve non-resonant behavior, we propose a metallic grating device with linearly tapered slits. The tapering provides a gradual impedance variation from the entrance to the exit of the slits, leading to broadband and wide-angle enhanced transmission in the infrared. This paper presents recent improvements of our new solar concentrator design for space application. The concentrator is based on a combination of a diffraction grating (blazed or lamellar) coupled with a Fresnel lens. Thanks to this diffractive/refractive combination, this optical element splits...

The tuning properties for the mid-IR DFG laser based on uniform grating PPLN have been investigated with tunable YDFL and EDFL fundamental lights. Our results show that, for a fixed crystal temperature, the idler tunable range is less than 10 nm when the EDFL is tuned. Although the pump may be...
