Distribution of eddy current along an ideal surface crack

In this paper, a set of integral equations is derived systematically for the eddy current interacting with an ideal surface crack. An auxiliary surface integral equation is derived particularly for further determining the currents on both sides of the crack. These integral equations are solved numerically by the boundary element method (BEM). Additionally, special elements for BEM are developed to deal with the behaviors of eddy current at corners and crack tip. The differences of eddy current distribution between surface crack and embedded crack are illustrated also. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
