ABSTRACT
We treat baryons as bound states of scalar or axialvector diquarks and a constituent quark which interact through quark exchange. This description results as an approximation to the relativistic Faddeev equation for three quarks which yields an effective Bethe-Salpeter equation. Octet and decuplet masses and fully four-dimensional wave functions have been computed for two cases: assuming an essentially pointlike diquark on the one hand, and a diquark with internal structure on the other hand. Whereas the differences in the mass spectrum are fairly small, the nucleon electromagnetic form factors are greatly improved assuming a diquark with structure. First calculations to the pion-nucleon form factor also suggest improvements. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

The low mass of the Λ(1405) hyperon with j = 1/2, which is higher than the ground state Λ(1116) mass by 290 MeV, is difficult to understand in quark models. We analyze the hyperon spectrum in the bound state approach of the Skyrme model that successfully describes both the Λ(1116)...

An effective meson Lagrangian including a scalar glueball is constructed on the basis of U(3) x U(3) chiral symmetry. The glueball is introduced in the meson Lagrangian by using the principle of scale invariance of an effective Lagrangian and the dilaton model. The singlet-octet mixing of...
