Slow dynamics features in aqueous solutions of high molecular weight Poly(Ethylene Oxide)

In this contribution results of Photon Correlation Spectroscopy measurements on aqueous solutions of high molecular weight Poly(Ethylene Oxide) in the semidilute regime are reported. They clearly reveal the existence of two distinct k[sup 2]-dependent processes on far different time scales: a collective diffusion process at short times and a slow dynamics at long times. The experimental findings suggest that the slow dynamics is likely due to the formation of “clusters” which crucially depends, besides on the fact that the overlap concentration is reached, on the polymer main chain length. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
