ABSTRACT
We review the recent progress in theoretical and experimental understanding of harmonic generation by intense laser pulses. We present investigations on the spatial and temporal coherence properties of the harmonic emission, showing that they can be controlled. Finally, we give some examples of current applications of this XUV source, in particular in the diagnostic of dense plasmas. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
