We discuss an effect of the intergalactic absorption of the TeV γ-rays in time-averaged spectrum of Mkn 501 measured by the HEGRA collaboration. Analysis of the spectral behavior, variability time scale and relevant calculations of TeV γ-ray emission allow to conclude the presence of a noticeable absorption of the TeV γ-rays in the Mkn 501 energy spectrum. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

In this paper observations are presented of interstellar high-ion absorption-line profiles in three diverse environments: the extended halo of the Milky Way, the host galaxies of gamma-ray bursts at z > 2, and intervening damped Lyman-a absorbers at z ≈ 3. In the first two cases, outflow...

We discuss several effects due to absorption of high energy gamma-rays by pair production with ambient background photons. This absorption process leads to the concept of the gamma-ray horizon, which is the energy dependent distance beyond which the optical depth due to this process exceeds...

In this paper basic formulas are developed for the calculation of the absorbed dose rate outside of a gamma radiation source of an empty cylinder shape. A transient Fe absorption edge during the prompt phase of a GRB has recently been observed for the first time.
