ABSTRACT
Cherenkov telescope observations at zenith angles >70° are capable of providing large collection areas for high energy γ-induced air showers. In order to provide a full Monte Carlo simulation of the large zenith angle observations the air shower simulation code CORSIKA was modified to treat particles in a curved geometry. First results of studies with the stand alone telescope HEGRA CT1 are presented. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

With the advent of new generation Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs), with improved sensitivity, it will be mandatory to extend observation to High Zenith Angles (HZA). This will allow us to extend by a large factor the observation time as well as the statistics for any gamma-ray...

The feasibility of a next generation underground water Cherenkov detector is examined and a conceptual design (UNO) is presented. The design has a linear detector configuration with a total volume of 650 kton which is 13 times the total volume of the Super-Kamiokande detector. It corresponds to...

The Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System (VERI-TAS) is a wide energy range (50 GeV–50 TeV) atmospheric Cherenkov detector and will start operation in 2004. The design is driven by a major scientific interest in jets of active galactic nuclei, probing the intergalactic...

An option for the cameras of the HESS telescopes, the concept of a modular camera based on “Smart Pixels” was developed. A Smart Pixel contains the photomultiplier, the high voltage supply for the photomultiplier, a dual-gain sample-and-hold circuit with a 14 bit dynamic range, a...

We have reported the results of the interaction between the geomagnetic field and the development of atmospheric electron cascades as manifested by the distortion of the atmospheric Cˇerenkov signal. We will summarize these effects and describe our initial attempt to remove this distortion...
