An overview of the design parameters and the status of the 17 m Ø MAGIC telescope project will be given. During phase I the telescope will reach a threshold of 30 GeV and a sensitivity of 6.10[sup -11]/cm[sup 2] sec (5 sigma, 50 hours on source). ‘First light’ is expected in mid 2001 and observations will begin in 2002. The telescope will be installed at the HEGRA site on La Palma. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

BL Lacertae is a nearby active galaxy of the blazar class with a redshift z=0.069 and therefore, within the unified model of AGN, a candidate for the observation of gamma emissions in the TeV range. During 1998, BL Lacertae has been observed by the HEGRA equatorial mount Cherenkov telescope. The...

In its first phase, a system of four large Cherenkov telescopes with about 100 m2 mirror area will be installed in the Khomas Highland of Namibia. A later expansion of the...

The MAGIC Telescope will use FADCs to sample the camera pixel signals. This allows to analyze features of the Cherenkov time pulses with ∼1 ns resolution and to minimize data taking deadtime and noise. Here we report on the first tests of a 300 MHz FADC 32-channel unit and on some special...

Observations of air showers with the stereoscopic HEGRA IACT system are usually carried out in a mode where all telescopes point in the same direction. Alternatively, one could take into account the finite distance to the shower maximum and orient the telescopes such that their optical axes...
