ABSTRACT
The associated strangeness production in elementary reactions like pp→KYN close to reaction thresholds is one of the main topics to be investigated at the Time-of-Flight spectrometer TOF located at the Cooler Synchrotron COSY (FZ Ju¨lich). The concept of the event reconstruction is based on the identification of the delayed hyperon and kaon decay (Λ→pπ[sup -], Σ[sup +]→pπ[sup 0], nπ[sup +] and K[sub s][sup 0]→π[sup +]π[sup -]). Since the highly granulated detector covers almost the full phase space all differential distributions as well as total cross sections and the hyperon polarization can be extracted from the data. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
