ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a better job of picking the right market weight for hogs which can add 3-5 dollars per pig in revenue in the U.S. According to Keith Wilson of the Department of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), hog mamagers must have control over the genetics of the pigs so that their growth, feed conversion, and carcass value are locked in. It notes that selection of market-ready pigs is usually a haphazard affair with an ill-advised preoccupation with the average weight of pigs.
