To investigate direct and reverse polymorphic transition of tin, shock compression measurements have been carried out up to 50 GPa peak stress. Interface velocity measurements between tin target and LiF window have been recorded using VISAR measurement technique. Interface velocity profiles show direct and reverse polymorphic transition and melting on release.

A series of plate impact experiments has been performed to determine the shock loading behaviour of cement paste (grout) with water to cement ratio of 0.35 by weight and no aggregates. Hugoniot stress data were collected by means of embedded manganin gauges up to 5 GPa. Results are then compared...

  • Traditional Analysis of Nonlinear Wave Propagation in Solids. Davison, Lee // AIP Conference Proceedings;2002, Vol. 620 Issue 1, p20

Propagation of nonlinear plane waves of uniaxial strain is reviewed, emphasizing calculation of thermodynamic slates produced by these waves. Both smooth waves and shocks are considered, with emphasis on discussion of shocks as they occur in several settings.

The high-strain rate response of polymers is becoming increasingly important to understand, given their widespread use in many industries. In particular, they are used as bonding agents in the production of materials such as polymer bonded explosives. In this case, their properties become...

Plate impact experiments have been performed on samples of the γ-titanium alloy, Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb-1B to determine its mechanical response during shock loading. This alloy displays pronounced precursor decay. Comparison with the findings of a previous investigation on a similar material shows...

In this paper we explore the local geometry of the medial axis (MA) and shocks (SH), and their structural changes under deformations, by viewing these symmetries as subsets of the symmetry set (SS) and present two results. First, we establish that the local form of the medial axis must...

An expression for the shock adiabat of a multicomponent mixture has been obtained. It agrees with the equations of the one-velocity model of a heterogeneous medium. The predictions are compared with the generally used shock adiabat equation based on the assumption on additive shock compression...

To improve our understanding of nonlinear elastic properties of soils, a method is proposed of estimation of stress-strain relations of soils in situ in strong ground motion based on vertical array data. Strong motion records provided by seismic vertical arrays allow estimation of nonlinear...

On the basis of the latest experimental data and ab-initio calculations the multi-phase equation of state of quartz has been constructed. Quartz is a basic rock forming mineral. This fact initiated a comprehensive investigation into its thermodynamic, mechanical and shock-wave properties. Quartz...
